Description

This is a joint chapter meeting sponsored by the Metro Maryland and ARMA NOVA Chapters.

Time: Networking – 6:00 PM, Dinner – 6:30 PM, Presentation – 7:30 PM

Location: Far East Restaurant, 5055 Nicholson Lane, Rockville, MD 20852. Please note that the banquet room is on the 2nd floor, and is only accessible by stairs.

Program:

Sam McClure, former Deputy Director of NARA's system of Presidential Libraries, will describe the founding of the system and the evolution of the legal frameworks governing the establishment of new Libraries and the records held by these Libraries.

Speaker: Sam McClure, NARA

Sam McClure is the Electronic Records Program Director of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). Before assuming this role he served as Deputy Director of NARA’s system of Presidential Libraries. Sam served in a variety of roles in the central office staff for Presidential Libraries starting in 2003, including serving as the principal liaison for Presidential Libraries to NARA’s Electronic Records Archives project (ERA), the agency’s groundbreaking initiative to preserve and provide access to the electronic records in its custody. He started his NARA career in 1996 as an archivist at the George Bush Presidential Library and later worked as an archivist with the Nixon Presidential Materials Staff, where he reviewed Nixon White House Tapes for public access. A native of Louisiana, he has a BA in history from Louisiana Tech University and a MA in history from Texas A&M University.

Menu: Food will be served lazy-Susan style. The menu will include: steamed vegetable dumplings, chicken corn soup, shrimp with peas, beef with string beans, sesame chicken, vegetable lo mein, toffee pineapple, steamed and fried rice, fortune cookies, and hot tea. Individuals will be responsible for payment for soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.

Cost: Online registration with credit card, $35 for ARMA members and $40 for non-members; and reduced rate for students with valid ID and applicable studies.
